The Dave Thorpe Evo series was started at the beginning of
2010 by Dave King who was also one of the founders of the Vets MXdN at
Farleigh Castle. The first series ran over five rounds with riders’ of all
abilities and age’s riding motocross bikes from the eighties.
Three classes of machines competed
against each other but would score separately, these being 125cc, 250cc
and 500cc. When ‘Kinger’ needed to dedicate more time to the VMXdN he was
looking for someone to run the series in the future so we took the
opportunity to build on what was a fantastic idea. The format of the
series from it’s pilot year is still in place with bikes being Pre’ 90
model, this being the period in which Dave Thorpe won his three 500cc
world championships (1985, 1986 and 1989) the eighties certainly was a
golden period for British Motocross). With the support and backing of Dave
Thorpe himself and a donation of a trophy we had the foundations in which
we could take the series forward.
For 2011 `Putoline Oils` came on board
to offer sponsorship of the series which grew to six rounds with three new
venues and three from the 2010 series. After a late start to getting the
series organised we finally kicked off round one at Owlesbury on April 3rd
with a full line up. The series gained momentum and interest throughout
the year so things are looking good for the future of the series.
